Why is my crunch taking so long?

Last updated: March 31, 2025

Big files take longer to crunch. We are always watching over your crunches to make sure they process accurately and completely.

Common reasons for long crunch time:

  1. File Size: The upload limit is set at 500MB or 3000 pages. If your file exceeds this amount, we recommend breaking this up into separate files and uploads.

  2. File Contents: The composition of your uploaded file significantly impacts the crunch duration.

    • Images: Including site photos, logos, and large drawings

    • Pages with Varying Orientations: Mixtures of landscape and portrait orientations

    • Complex Grids: Schedules, scope sheets, document lists, and Geotech reports

    • Scanned Documents: Refers to documents that exhibit the appearance of editable text; but it's actually an image file

But why is it taking so long?

Our CrunchAI algorithms are optimized for TEXT. If your crunch is loaded with drawings, grids, schedules, and images, the AI has to dance around those a bit to thoroughly identify and interpret the text. In most cases, the crunch will complete successfully, but if you have questions or concerns, you can always reach out to us at support@documentcrunch.com.
